Neelakash Kshetrimayum

Neelakash Kshetrimayum is a type and graphic designer from Manipur, India. He is partner and co-founder at BrandNewType, an independent type & typography design studio. He studied visual communication at the National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad, India) and went on to receive a Masters in Typeface Design from the University of Reading (Reading, UK), where he was awarded the Monotype Imaging Ltd Studentship.
Having worked with a range of organisations in the field of graphic design, Neelakash was introduced to typeface design while working on a project which investigated the revival of Meetei Mayek, the native script of Manipur. Since then, he has developed typefaces for a number of Indian scripts—particularly Devanagari, Bengali and Meetei Mayek—working in close collaboration with Fiona Ross and John Hudson.
His work continues to be centred around identity & culture, and multi-script typeface design.
