Mohamad Dakak

Mohamad Dakak is a type designer and PhD researcher, currently based in Cambridge, UK.

Mohamad studied MA in typeface design at the department of Typography and Graphic Communication, University of Reading. He previously studied visual communication at Damascus University in Syria and then worked as a graphic designer in several countries in the Middle East.
His typeface Jali started as a graduation project during the MATD course and was then redesigned over two years in partnership with URW and had more styles and weights added. Jali was recently awarded a Certificate in Typographic Excellence by TDC.
Mohamad is currently a PhD student at the department of Typography and Graphic Communication. His project which is funded by AHRC Design Star Doctoral Training Partnership focuses on diversity in Arabic type styles and its influence on Arab readership.
