GRANSHAN Jury 2019: Script expert for Cyrillic Scripts

Botio Nikoltchev was born 1978 in Sofia - Bulgaria.
After completing his studies at the University of Applied Science in Potsdam (Germany) where he took type design classes with Luc(as) de Groot, Botio worked collaboratively with a range of prestigious type designers like: Ole Schäfer, Ralph du Carrois, Łukasz Dziedzic, Akira Kobayashi and Erik Spiekermann.

In 2014, Botio founded the Berlin based independent type foundry lettersoup, that releases retail font families (Ropa, Quasimoda, Kardinal, Vocal, Attractive, Milka) and is focusing on Cyrillic, Greek and Arabic script extensions, custom typefaces and CI projects.

Botio strongly believes in custom typefaces as a very powerful tool and worked on: Fira Sans, Meta Science, Cisco Sans, UBB Bank. He recently designed a type system for the capital city of Bulgaria called Sofia Sans.

Botio teaches type design workshops in Berlin and Sofia and is actively engaged in the public discourse focusing on the future of the Bulgarian Cyrillic type graphic.
